Spirited drives on windy roads are fun, but flying around blind bends and straddling the centerline are going to come back to bite you eventually. Glad he met a runoff driveway and a tree, rather than an oncoming vehicle.

Obligatory “Why did you turn?!” Was he aiming for the driveway? Did grip become overrated?

For a second, I thought the dolt in the chase car was going to rear-end the dolt in the lead car as it started to drift back off of the embankment...

Driver: “Wow, I’m not understeering this left-hander!”

GTI ECU: “Must understeer. Turning right.”

And why did he feel the need to start pulling broken shit off his friends car? I’d be pissed if you started pulling on, admittedly broken, bits of my car.

Filmed in compliance with the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes Highway Code

LOLWUT? Is this some kind of new “filmed in Mexico” disclaimer?

Hopefully they learned a lesson. Spirited driving is great, but don’t cross center lines especially around blind curves, and don’t drive at or near the limit on public roads.

The impact didn’t seem that bad, but airbags going off usually = totaled, eh?

Cue the classic FWD sucks, if it was an RWD he’d have been able to just countersteer and drift it response.

Not always, but it helps push one there.

Replacing bag(s), impact sensors, control module, clockspring, seatbelt pretensioners (sometimes just reel, sometimes just buckle, sometimes both sides) usually runs about $3-4000 for parts and labor, getting worse with seat airbags/side curtain airbags. And then you have to address the physical damage to the car that caused the bags to pop in the first place.

Given the way it hit and the pile of front end undershields by the rear tire at the end of the video, both front rails are probably up, the radiator support (plastic composite) is shattered, radiator, condenser, and fan shroud are shot, numerous suspension components are bent, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find a crushed or punctured oil pan.

His exit from the pavement wasn’t intentional either, but at least he didn’t crash.
